What are the details? Why am I selling? ….honestly, I wish I could keep it.
This 1998 Suzuki TL1000R is in great condition and has been well cared for. It has been garage stored and under a cover when not in use. The motor pulls incredibly strong and still feels fresh. The TLR has always been the #2 bike on my list, and when this one came up for sale, I drove out to Colorado to get it. I am selling the TLR because the opportunity to buy a Ducati 998 (#1 on the list) has come up, so the TLR must go. If I could keep both, I would, because this TLR has been an absolute dream to own. I have never had any problems with it, and it is great fun to drive.
What has been added to this bike beyond stock? ….basic TLR goodies.
Aftermarket Parts/Modifications: Full Stainless Yoshimura RS-3 exhaust; flush-mount turn signals (front & rear); xenon-color halogen bulbs (not tinted glass); Bestem rear fiberglass fender with integrated chain guard (brand-new, not yet installed); recessed rear taillight; reworked undertail; blue Lockhart-Phillips Speedscreen.
What repair work has been done? ….not much, it’s in great condition.
When I bought the bike, the right front fork was leaking oil, so I had the fork seals and the oil changed. This completely fixed the problem, and there have been no signs of leaking oil since. The work was performed by Weber’s Cycle Center, in Waterloo, IA, but that is the only work they have done on my TLR. Other than that, is had needed no repairs. I have performed all of the necessary regular maintenance. I just changed the oil, and I have the receipts for the work I have done. For those interested, I have fuel receipts in case you’re curious about mileage.
Is there anything wrong with it right now? ….no, this bike is ready to ride.
Since this bike has a clear title, it is my assumption that is has never been laid down. The frame and fairings are in great condition, and show no signs of crash damage. The engine cover on the right side, however, is scuffed vertically, which looks like it fell over in a shop with the panels off. There is no other damage to the frame or motor. The previous owner had a disc lock fitted on the front discs and forgot to remove it when he moved the bike; this cracked the front of the fender. Also, there are two small cracks in the fairings: one under the left headlight, and one on the underside of the main bodywork. Neither of these blemishes is in plain sight. The wheels need a thorough cleaning, or new paint altogether. The tank has a few small chips in the paint, and I have touch-up paint that comes with the bike. The left mirror was replaced with a non-stock mirror, but honestly, it looks better than the ugly rectangular units supplied by Suzuki.
Thank you for looking at my site. If you are serious about getting a TLR, this one will bring you thousands of miles of trouble-free riding. Rest assured that this has been a well-maintained motorcycle. I do not abuse my bikes, despite their performance capabilities. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. I would be glad to answer them. If you live near Waterloo, Iowa, and would like to see the bike in person, please let me know. |
